Social media

Summary

You make it happen yourself.

  • You don't need to be an influencer to sell music any more; in fact, most influencers struggle to convert fans to listeners (thank goodness 😭)
  • What is my Unique Selling Point (USP)?
    • Music, brand, style – what makes me different as an artist?
    • Bringing this to life through socials is what blows artists and musicians up
  • Follow-up makes or breaks virality
    • e.g. Consistently following that content strategy → consistent conversion from virality to real streams ✅
  • Community-building
    • DMs, replying to comments, stories, talking to human beings and not numbers → making & sustaining a career ✅
    • Build trust and authenticity – especially in the age of AI
    • Send voicenotes to fans

Live

Summary

Harder; who you know.

  • You need to know that one person.
  • Proof that you're someone to get behind who's here to stay and work consistently.
  • Support slots, local small school tours, very focused small tours → building a live audience
    • focused tours enables word-of-mouth and people can't ignore you
    • scale from town → city → state/region → country
  • Building a live portfolio → easy EPK, great clips
  • Can be done yourself, but very hard

Booking Agent

  • Tastemakers getting behind you – radio, DSPs, agents, press, socials, etc.

Collabs

  • Support slots + collabing with a bigger audience to 'take' or 'borrow' their audience
  • e.g. Producer, another artist, rapper, content collab
    • Content collabs are very track-dependent on how TikTok-friendly and catchy it is
    • Can be done free if there's value added to the creator (to increase their views) – including a decent social media following
  • Music remains the main funnel for collabs!
  • A team can make this a lot easier
